VHRmedia, Jakarta – Instead of being back to normal, the chili price has been skyrocketing to be more than Rp 100,000 a kilogram.
One of vegetable sellers at Pasar Palmerah, South Jakarta, Wahidin, explained that the chili price has increased in last three weeks.“In last several days, the price was Rp 80,000 a kilogram, when the normal price is only Rp 50,000 to Rp 60,000,” Wahidin said on Tuesday, 4 January 2011.
The price, according to Wahidin, has not been back to normal since December 2010.
Wahidin thought that crops failures and the excessive rainfalls have caused the lack of stockpiles of chilies.
“Chili price has always increased every year, but the price reached its higher point in this year,” Wahidin continued.
One of Jakarta’s resident who shopped at the market, Muminah, said that she did not have other choice but buying chilies, even though it is very expensive.
Muminah needs chilies to make and sell fried noodles, the way she earns money for living.
“I must put chilies in fried noodles which I sell. Unfortunately, it is not hot anymore. I can put little chilies in it because I cannot buy chilies as many as I had done before,” Muminah complained. (E1)

This article tells about increasing of chili price. It’s not the first time, but every year this phenomena always happen because of crop failure and other factor. I think, the government must find the way to solve this problem. The government must give course to the farmer in order they can keep down crop failure when rainy time. If the crop is success, I believe there is no skyrocketing chili price anymore.
If the Government can handle it, it will be a good news. Because chiliis a stapleCuisine who wear Chillies are the hallmark of Indonesia. It’s proven that indonesia’s Chili has better quality than others, because inIndoonesia has fertile soil and extensive agricultureSo the governmentshould take part in the handling of increasing chili priceso that the community was not too disappointed about this condition.
